Vernon Mooers writes

At The Balihi Hotel

In front of the Balihi Hotel

the girls wear broadened smiles

      silk smooth on their shoulders

out the glass window

white waves break

      along the boardwalk

boulders stretch out to sea

      like fifteen foot fishing rods

the children smile

      up at me; and you

      throw the ball

      into the air

laugh their freedom cry

like seagulls
